Does SafeHouse Serve Men?

When people think about domestic violence and sexual assault services, they often picture women seeking help. While women make up a significant portion of survivors, they are not the only people affected by abuse. Men experience domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence as well—and they deserve support, safety, and access to services.

At SafeHouse, we are proud to serve survivors of all genders. Every person who reaches out to us is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect, regardless of gender identity or background.

Breaking the Stigma

One of the greatest barriers male survivors face is stigma. Many men have been told—directly or indirectly—that they should be able to handle problems on their own, that seeking help is a sign of weakness, or that abuse only happens to women.

These harmful misconceptions can prevent survivors from reaching out for support when they need it most.

The reality is that abuse can happen to anyone. Domestic violence and sexual assault affect people of all genders, ages, races, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds. No one deserves to experience abuse, and no one should have to face it alone.

Services Available to Men

SafeHouse provides a wide range of services to male survivors, just as we do for any survivor seeking help.

Our services include:

Every survivor’s situation is unique, which is why we assess each case individually and work with clients to determine the safest and most appropriate course of action.

What About Shelter?

A common question we receive is whether men can access shelter services.

The answer is yes.

SafeHouse serves men who need emergency shelter. At the same time, we must carefully consider the safety and needs of all clients when making shelter placement decisions. Because every situation is different, we assess each case individually and determine the best option based on the circumstances.

In some cases, placement in our shelter may be appropriate. In others, we may identify alternative safe housing arrangements that better meet the survivor’s needs. This could include temporary hotel accommodations or connecting the survivor with other housing resources in the community.

Our goal is always the same: helping survivors find safety and stability as quickly as possible.

Individualized Support for Every Survivor

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to victim services. Each survivor comes to us with different experiences, risks, concerns, and goals. Rather than making assumptions based on gender, we focus on understanding the individual’s situation and identifying the resources that will best support their safety and healing.

Whether someone needs counseling, legal advocacy, emergency shelter, or simply a compassionate person to talk to, our team is committed to helping them navigate the next steps.

We Are Here for Everyone

At SafeHouse, we believe that every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, and supported.

Domestic violence and sexual assault can affect anyone, and help should be available to everyone. We are proud to serve survivors of all genders and to provide services that meet people where they are, with safety, dignity, and respect at the center of everything we do.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, SafeHouse is here to help.
